Review 9/8/2011
We booked a cross country move with Bekins through Action(Denny Schlotfeldt) moving company out of Spokane, Wa. We did hire the movers to pack for us as well as the "for all it's worth coverage". We initially were told it would take 3 days to pack and load our things. The lead mover, Richard Pinyan, told us they could finish packing and load us on the second day and that would be more convenient for them and we agreed.Upon loading that day an entire shelving unit was mishandled and crushed in our driveway. We had them move our items directly into a private storage unit in Elmhurst, IL and my husband and I inspected everything as it came off the truck. They did deliver on time but did hire 2 local people who do not directly work for Bekins to unload our things. Multiple items and boxes were not inventoried, badly packed(mattress not boxed or wrapped with stain from a leaking kitchen box, glass with no paper, etc) and/or broken. I filed my insurance claim(for over $6000) and became very frustrated when I couldn't get a hold of anyone and never got an apology about what a horrible job they had done and still have not heard what the settlement is. On top of the damaged items we are missing a Canon SLR camera(with kids pictures on it!!) with accessories, laptop computer and oakley sunglasses. We picked Bekins because of their great reputation and are frustrated and saddened over our losses and a bit angry over the lack of customer service. I am still waiting to hear back from Vera Elmore, our claims adjuster who never answers the phone or answered an email sent on Monday. Nobody is ever available in the claims department, only Cassadra who answers the phone and takes my message. If moving across the country with two young kids, dog and cat wasn't stressful enough this definitely made it worse. What is most upsetting is losing photos of my children that were on our camera. Sure, some of our (expensive) furniture still functions but it is now chipped, stained, dented or scratched. Above all, how about some customer service? apology? Not only were we inconvenienced with our damages and losses I've had to waste so much time on submitting claims and following up with a phone number that puts you straight on hold. They are now threatening to deny my missing items claim because I did not submit documentation from the time of delivery. I feel like I paid someone to rob me, and they did! We paid exactly $12,000 for them to damage and take our belongings.
