I purchased a compact washer/dryer combo from this company a little over 2 years ago. The company's service and support is very good, however, the quality of the product they sell is not.
The unit came with a one year parts and labor warranty. After this warranty expired, I experienced my first failure: the blower motor for the dryer burned out. This occured in May of 2007. I was able to procure a replacement motor from the helpful service department and install it myself for a total cost of around $100 plus my time.
I will point out that when I was discussing the burned out motor with the service department at Thor, they did caution that the tub can not be filled to capacity while drying, as this could cause the motor to overheat. I learned this on my own when I first got the machine: I found that filling the tub completely while drying also results in very VERY wrinkled clothing, so I was always sure to only fill the tub halfway with clothes to prevent the need to iron every piece of clothing I washed.
Yesterday, while my washer was in the spin cycle, I heard a terrible noise. When I inspected the load of laundry, I found some metal pieces in the washer tub. When I removed the top cover to inspect the mechanics, I found that the cast iron-looking housing for the dryer unit had shattered.
I do realize that I am quite out of warranty with this product and would have no recourse if I filed a formal complaint with the BBB. In all, I spent over $1300 (including the above-mentioned repair) on a neat, compact washer/dryer unit but I am now at the point with this appliance where even if I could get another replacement part, the money and time will not be worth fixing the product. The unit is less than 3 years old.
In hindsight, I should have spent my money on a "real" washer and dryer rather than purchasing an obviously rebranded piece of foreign-made junk.
